- The WWW Series
- The Jessica Keller Chronicles
I wrote this up in late 2025 mostly so one of my kids could pick one for us to do as an audiobook on our many long drives.
This means that it doesn’t include books I can’t find audiobooks for (the Marianne series by Tepper) or books I really don’t want to read with my child (the Gap series by Donaldson).
The Honor Harrington Series
Very much military space opera, which means there’s lots of space ship combat. The author’s made up rules for how space ships have to fight can get a bit tedious, but it is an otherwise excellent series. Honor (the main character) is an intensely competent and cunning woman who consistently hands people their asses in a way I find deeply satisfying, with stand-out examples for me being her would-be rapist and a group that murders a bunch of kids for political purposes.
This series is complete but very, very long (about 20 books for the whole experience).
The Stork Tower Series
NOTE: ugh wrote this up before realizing it has no audiobooks. ;( Nor does Tony Corden’s other series. Sad.
About a teenager who lives in a future where a brain implant is basically required to get higher education. She’s poor so she decides to pay for her education by playing online RPGs (thing Baldur’s Gate 3 but full-sensory) for money.
Then she runs afoul of a group of people who are enslaving girls using their brain implants, and the ass kicking ensues.
This series is not complete but 8 books should be plenty.
The Dragoneye Moons Series
About a young woman who is transported to a fantasy world where she has to fight to survive, but she focuses on being a healer and becomes very, very good at it. A lot of the focus is on her actual power development.
This series is not complete but it’s up to like 15 books.
Worm
A web serial about a girl in a future where suddenly people start having super powers. Her power is control of bugs, but the story is as much about her journey as a teenage girl and about the horribleness of being in a world with super powers as anything else.
The audiobooks for this are fan produced so it’d be a bit of a process, but the first chunks are easy to get.
This story is complete but there’s probably not audiobooks for the whole thing.
The WWW Series
A blind girl gets an implant to help her see but it allows her to see computer networks, where she soon meets the world’s first AI.
This series is complete.
The Jessica Keller Chronicles
Honestly I don’t remember these very well, but I gave 4 stars to most of them, so… They’re about a woman who becomes queen of the space pirates, basically.
This series is complete.
